{"id":351,"date":"2024-07-08T06:12:29","date_gmt":"2024-07-07T19:12:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bornfree.life\/2024\/?p=351"},"modified":"2026-03-21T08:45:23","modified_gmt":"2026-03-20T21:45:23","slug":"2-3-2-remineralisation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bornfree.life\/learn\/2-3-2-remineralisation\/","title":{"rendered":"2.3.2 Remineralisation"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n\n<div class=\"flex flex-col gap-5 items-center title-container\"><a href=\"https:\/\/bornfree.life\/learn\/2-3-2-remineralisation\/\"><h1 class=\"text-center text-5xl text-blue-title font-semibold\">\n        2.3.2 Remineralisation      <\/h1><\/a>\n\n          <\/div>\n\n    <div class=\"border-t h-px border-default-border w-full\"><br><\/div><p><br><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-group\"><\/p><p><strong><br><\/strong><strong>One of the biggest challenges for remineralisation with chronic disease and inflammation is absorption. <\/strong>The<br> disease model shows this is mostly related to elevated TNF-\u03b1, IL-1\u03b2, IL-6, IL-10, IL-22 -&gt; hepcidin, which then inhibits 2 metal transporters &#8211; Divalent Metal Transporter (DMT-1) &amp; ferroportin. This further inhibits dietary intake and circulation of at least 11 <br>metals, by sequestering them in specific cells \/ tissues (brain, liver, kidneys, spleen).&nbsp;<br><br>These known metals are&nbsp;<strong>Iron (Fe), Manganese (Mn), Copper (Cu), Zinc (Zn), Cobalt (Co), Molybdenum (Mo), Nickel (Ni), Cadmium (Cd), Lead (Pb), Vanadium (V) and Selenium (Se), in their 2+ state.<br><br><\/strong>This hepcidin-mediated mechanism appears to benefit the host during <strong>acute<\/strong> immune activity by depriving circulating pathogens of iron and other minerals which may help their proliferation.<br><br>During <strong>chronic<\/strong> immune activity (ie. failure to clear the acute infection, due to pathogen evolution and immune surveillance &#8220;blind spots&#8221; + dysregulation), this hepcidin-mediated cascade leads to depletion of these metals, via dietary blockade during the inflammatory state.&nbsp;<br><br>Coupled with this blockade is progressively worse acidaemia from from a lowered lactate threshold, due to progressively worse mitochondrial dysfunction and enhanced renal excretion of zinc and electrolytes. (see <a href=\"https:\/\/bornfree.life\/learn\/#figure12\">Figure 12<\/a> on the disease model page and <a href=\"https:\/\/bornfree.life\/learn\/2-2-4-the-importance-of-pacing\/\">2.2.4 The importance of pacing<\/a>)<br><br>The more frequent the chronic inflammatory spikes, the more difficult it is to absorb these metals from diet, as they&#8217;ll be actively rejected. ie. The deeper into the ME\/CFS spiral you are, the harder it is to recover the minerals via diet and oral supplementation and the more effort you&#8217;ll need to put into rebuilding and maintaining their systemic levels.&nbsp;<br><br>This means non-oral routes or special tricks to bypass the standard mineral transporters are required for an initial repletion period and progressively less so as the inflammatory cascade is corrected.&nbsp;<br><br>According to the literature, a 70kg human body normally maintains an optimal level of many elements needed for enzymatic and other processes.&nbsp;<br><br>The amount of each element stored also appears to have a relationship with the severity of the metabolic impact experienced, if deficient, eg. oxygen deficiency creates severe and fairly rapid dysfunction.&nbsp;<br><br>Based on the table of elements below, this further suggests that future studies may find overlooked biological advantages in our bodies naturally maintaining a certain amount of eg. lead &#8211; perhaps, hypothetically (and purely speculatively) providing resilience against high-energy radiation?<br><br><\/p>\n\n<div class=\"wpdt-c row
