An Organic Acids Test (OAT) is a comprehensive report on urine \/ plasma metabolites.<\/p>

There are various OAT vendors, and they each have strengths and weaknesses.

The Theriome Aristotle Plus report is clearly the most useful, however also comes at a premium price. 

However, any ‘traditional’ OAT vendor for this protocol will cover the major pathways \/ intersections, albeit in much lower resolution. 
eg.
Mosaic DX,<\/strong>for reasons of reliability, results consistency and marker inclusion has been the go-to for many years. 
Vibrant Wellness <\/strong>has an identical array of markers in their OAT panel. 
Diagnostics Solutions OMX <\/strong>Organic Metabolomics <\/strong>has a broader array of markers and similar price to the others. 
NutriPATH Organic Acids Metabolomic Mapping<\/strong> has a nice, albeit narrower array of inclusions. 
Genova Diagnostics NutrEval<\/strong> and Metabolomix<\/strong> are long-established and reliable reports for the core suite of analytes.

Theriome Aristotle Plus<\/strong>

Newer, significantly more data-rich testing options now exist, such as the Theriome Aristotle and Aristotle Plus<\/a> range of dried blood-spot tests. The Aristotle Plus report currently includes 296 analytes and is far, far superior to traditional OAT reports. 

However, this leap in functionality does come at a higher cost. Although the official recommended retail price is >USD$2500, various providers offer them from >USD$800, worldwide.

Note: if there is a pattern of \u201cleft shift\u201d or \u201csuspiciously \nlow\u201d microbial markers on page 1 of the MosaicDX OAT results, it\u2019s possible the \nsample has thawed in transit and the integrity compromised, AND\/OR the concentration of the sample was out of range (hydration levels). You may need\n to repeat the test.

For best results a very short shipping time is \nneeded and creatinine levels (marker 77) should ideally be between 80-180 mg\/dL.

Mosiac DX automatically scale the report markers against the creatinine levels, which can induce a false LEFT-shift with very high concentrations and RIGHT-shift with very low-concentrations. Overall, it’s something I think the lab could improve on.<\/strong>

In addition to allowing interpretation of metabolic impairment from the patterns observed in these markers, page 1 of the report shows various markers for microbial interference. The remaining pages show your metabolic impairments from infection and malnutrition. Elevation of yeast, bacterial and fungal metabolites in OAT results have been seen consistently in our collected data, with matching symptoms. A further MycoTOX test may provide further clarity on species and expected metabolic impairments, if required.

Mosaic DX TOXDetect (optional, recommended)<\/h4>


Mosaic DX also provides another urine metabolites test called “TOXDetect Profile”, which allows you to quantify the burden of various toxins. Of particular note, 2-Hydroxyethyl Mercapturic Acid (HEMA) in urine appears to be a useful indicator for acetaldehyde<\/strong>, either from exogenous alcohol consumption or fermentation syndrome. However, it is confounded by ethylene oxide and PVC. The metabolism also requires sufficient glutathione for HEMA to be produced<\/strong>. A more direct way to quantify this in urine may be available in the near future.

This test is a little more expensive than the OAT, however can be helpful in monitoring microbiome remediation progress and\/or hidden environmental toxins.
